Montana State Hospital was built in 1877 but didn’t open until 1912. It currently operates 270 beds with treatment ranging from general to forensic. The hospital was established in Warm Springs, MT which is aptly named for its natural hot spring that seeps from a limestone bed. The Native Americans in this area believed that the springs held healing properties, so it is little surprise that this translated to early hospital history as well.
